On episode 42 of The Drift, host John Methia sits down with Retired Captain Wes Pulver, President of the National Coast Guard Museum Association, to discuss exciting updates about the Museum’s progress!

CAPT. Wes Pulver, USCG (Ret.) shares that significant milestones have been achieved, including the creation of the foundation, the installation of bedrock piles, and the continued progress on pile caps. He reveals that steel will be coming out of the ground later this fall, marking another significant milestone.

When asked about the inspiration behind the Museum, CAPT. Wes Pulver, USCG (Ret.) says this “It’s not just a Museum, it’s a home for the service. It’s a place to show people the maritime history, not just the Coast Guard history of our Nation”. He adds that the Museum is driven by the goal of “inspiring the next generation” and telling “the Coast Guard story”.

Discussing the Museum’s funding, Pulver explains that as a federal institution, it will be funded by the U.S. Coast Guard, and admission will be free. He also explains why New London was chosen to be home to the new National Coast Guard Museum and announces that the USCGC Barque Eagle will be moored adjacent to the Museum.

Pulver provides some insight on the educational resources that the Museum will provide and the role it will play in the academic curriculum for children in Connecticut.
