How to Make a Gift

Many gift giving options are available, including gifts by mail, transfer of stocks/securities, IRA charitable rollovers (Qualified Charitable Distribution), donor-advised funds, and crypto currencies.

If you’re unsure of the best approach, our professional gift officers can work with you to find an option that best aligns with your level of support. Below, we’ve provided details about some specific gift-giving ideas.

Support The National Coast Guard Museum by making a charitable gift in stock. We accept donations in publicly traded, domestic common stocks.

To make this process as simple as possible, the Museum has invested in a partnership with The Giving Block. Donating stock is safe and easy. Using the donation widget below, making a charitable gift of stock is a quick, five-step process:

  1. Select your stock ticker and confirm the company name in the donation form
  2. Enter your gift amount
  3. Type in your email and address info for the receipt
  4. Enter your brokerage account information
  5. Virtually sign & make your gift!

Upon making a donation, you will receive an email notification from The Giving Block that your gift is being processed. In some circumstances, you may need to take action with your broker. The email will have instructions on any next steps.

Charitable donations of stock are processed safely and typically within 6-8 business days with The Giving Block’s distribution partner. Processing times can be longer during December or when dealing with restricted stock.

If you need help or have additional questions, please contact us at donate@coastguardmuseum.org and note “Stock Donation” in the subject line.

icon tax free 1 Tax-Free Giving with your IRA

This popular gift option is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover – you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD).

You can make an impact—and save on taxes by using your IRA to make a gift. If you’re 70½ or older, you can give any amount (up to a maximum of $100,000) per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity, such as the NCGMA, without paying income taxes on the money.

Alternatively, beginning the year you turn 73, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD). You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you don’t itemize your deductions.

Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level, which may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

Use the tool below to make your IRA gift quickly and easily.
